Citizen's Police Academy

Background Information

The Peters Township Police Department hosts a Citizen’s Police Academy at the Police Department, 200 Municipal Drive, McMurray, PA 15317.  The program expands the citizen’s knowledge and understanding of the law and explores police procedures.  Participants are taught the basics of criminal law with emphasis on the crimes code and vehicle code.  The program also includes patrol tactics, the processing of crime scenes, interview and interrogation and many other subjects.   

Citizen's Police Academy - Spring 2023 Session

The Citizen’s Police Academy Spring 2023 Session is scheduled to begin March 7, 2023 and end May 5, 2023.  The program will be held each Tuesday evening from 6:30 PM to 8:45 PM for 9 weeks.   Class size is limited to 25 participants to allow greater interaction between students and instructors.

Citizens are selected from interested applicants.  Preference will be granted to Peters Township residents.  All interested persons must be 18 years of age or older, complete an application, sign a release and waiver from liability, and give permission for the Peters Township Police Department to conduct a background check.
