Commercial / Business Recycling

What is Required?

Recycling isn't just a great idea. It's the law. In 1988, the Pennsylvania State Legislature enacted Act 101 entitled Pennsylvania's Municipal Waste Planning, Recycling and Waste Reduction Act. Act 101 requires commercial, institutional and, municipal establishments in Pennsylvania to recycle the following items:

  • Aluminum cans
  • Corrugated cardboard
  • High grade office paper
  • Leaf waste

It is the goal of Act 101 that at least 25% of the waste generated in Pennsylvania be recycled.

Reporting Your Recyclables

In addition to requiring that materials be recycled, businesses are also required to submit annual recycling reports to Peters Township. These report forms are mailed by Peters Township to all businesses in January. The report requests information on what items are being recycled by your business as well reporting the waste and recycling hauler you work with.  Businesses may mail the form back or complete the form online.

If you have any questions regarding this form or the recycling requirements, please contact Tom Gromek, Project Coordinator, at 724-260-5758 or TGromek@peterstownship.com

We highly encourage businesses in Peters Township to have their own recycling dumpster, where possible.  If you do wish to dispose of your business recyclables on your own, here are some drop off locations.
