Peters Township Bat Boxes

Did You Know?

  • Bats are mammals.
  • Bats can eat close to their body weight in insects every night.
  • Bats are not blind.  Sonar enhances their vision rather than replacing it.
  • Bats can help pollinate plants and spread seeds.

Three bat boxes were installed around Peters Township on April 8, 2021.  Bat houses like these give bats a place to roost away from buildings, attics and chimneys.  Dedicated roosting areas and shelters are key to co-habitation between bats and humans. Unfortunately White-Nose Syndrome is decimating our bat populations.  Shelters like these help bats survive, but there is much work to be done.

The boxes were installed at Fire Station #1, Peters Lake Park, and near the Peters Township Community Recreation Center.
